PESHAWAR, 15 April: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has indicated to give a farewell match to former captain Shahid Khan Afridi.
The PCB Executive Committee Chairman Najam Sethi telephoned Shahid Afridi on Friday and invited him to Lahore for a meeting. She assured Shahid Afridi to extend a grand farewell to him.
In a Twitter message, Najam Sethi also congratulated Shahid Afridi on being named ambassador of International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy. He said it is a matter of great honour for Pakistan.
The all-rounder was dropped from the Pakistan T20 squad after the World Cup. Afridi had recently said he wanted to retire on a high note but had never requested PCB to give him a farewell series before retiring from the game.
Reports had suggested earlier that PCB, on Afridi’s request, was considering including him for the West Indies series to make it a farewell series for him and provide him the opportunity to retire with the series. However, Afridi had neither denied nor confirmed the reports.
