DI KHAN, 14 July: Traders, journalists, local government representatives, members of civil society and a large number of political workers staged a peace rally against target killings here in Dera Ismail Khan(DI Khan) on Thursday.

The protesters marched from Chogali to press club holding banners in their hands and chanting slogans for peace in the city.

The rally was meant to denounce the murder of Advocate Sherazi from Shia community who was target killed by unidentified men in the city a few days back.

Addressing the gathering, speakers said that some elements wanted to incite hate and fuel violence between Sunni and Shia communities living in DI Khan through target killings but they would not succeed in their malicious designs.

Talking to TNN, member  of all councilors union Javed Ahmad Gandapur said they would maintain peace in the city through close coordination with police and other security forces. The target killing of Advocate Sherazi would not have happened if the current security steps were taken then, he added.

The protesters also condemned the murder of  Deputy Superintendent of Police Noor Muhammad, who was killed in the city during Ramadan, while lauding the role of police and security forces for peace.

It merits a mention here that army soldiers have been deployed at different points in the city after the murder of Advocate Sherazi.
