PESHAWAR, October 21: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has suspended the licence of ARY television channel for 15 days after criticism on the judiciary.
The officials, at a meeting of PEMRA, also fined the TV channel 10 million rupees. According to a PEMRA statement, the television had telecast a programme last month that ridiculed the country’s judiciary.
Two days ago, the Lahore High Court banned Mr Mubashir Luqman, host of the programme, from participating in the TV programmes.
Meanwhile, the ARY TV head Mr Salman Javed told a news conference that they had not received the PEMRA notice and that they would appeal to the court once they received the notice.
A few months ago, the PEMRA had suspended the licence of the same television organisation and also fined it in another case.
