PESHAWAR: This year, the people of North Waziristan tribal district will observe Eidul Azha on three different days.
The people of Haiderkhel village in Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan tribal district are observing Eidul Azha today (Thursday) as they offered the Eid prayer at 7:00am.
The whole village is observing Eidul Azha today and prayer for Eid was offered at the Jamia Masjid which was attended by a large number of people.
The local Ruet-e-Hilal (moon-sighting) committee said the Eid is being observed after receiving evidences of moon-sighting. It is important to note that moon was also reportedly sighted in Bannu one day after Haiderkhel area, but this evidence was not conveyed to the moon-sighting committee of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan headed by Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai in Peshawar.
The rest of North Waziristan will observe Eidul Azha tomorrow (Friday), July 31, and Nimaz-e-Eid will be offered at 7:00am. The main gathering of Eid prayer will be held at Tableeghi Markaz in Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan. However, those who want to observe Eid according to the announcement of the official Ruet-e-Hilal Committee headed by Mufti Munibur Rehman will observe Eid on Saturday, August 01.
Pakistan has announced Eidul Azha on August 01, while Eid will be observed in Saudi Arabia tomorrow.
The Haiderkhel area of North Waziristan had also observed Eidul Fitr one day ahead of the rest of the country.
The situation of North Waziristan is even more complicated than the rest of Pakistan where two Eids are on the cards. Those who will follow the official Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will observe Eid on Saturday, while those following the Saudi Arabian calendar will observe Eid tomorrow. This sometimes creates a difficult situation for those who share sacrificial animal.
In many areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and some areas of Balochistan, people will observe Eid tomorrow, according to the announcement of Ulema and elders. There are some people who basically are against the idea of observing Eid according to Saudi calendar, but they have shared sacrificial animals with brothers or cousins who want to observe Eid with Saudi Arabia. Resultantly, they have to observe Eid with Saudi Arabia despite not willing to do.
