TANK, November 1: People in Tank district staged protest, asking the government to begin supplying them electricity and water from Gomal Zam Dam.
The demonstrators blocked the main road leading to North Waziristan for about three hours and chanted slogans against the district administration.
They warned to carry out violent protests in near future in case the authorities failed to supply electricity to local residents. They said they couldn’t irrigate the fields in Tank due to water scarcity during the last five days.
One of the protestors, Mr Ayub Betani, told the TNN: “The Gomal Zam project has been completed in the area but locals’ rights have not been fulfilled till now. This is our soil and we should be given water and electricity from the project before residents of other areas avail it.”
