WSSP inaugurates cleanliness competition among four neighbourhood councils of Peshawar.

PESHAWAR: Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) on Tuesday launched a cleanliness competition among four neighborhood councils staff in Peshawar. According to WSSP, the city generates 800 tons of waste daily which is disposed off by sanitation staff.

The four neighborhood councils include UC 8 Faqirabad, UC 10 Gulbahar, UC 34 Nauthia Jadeed and UC Tehkal 39.

Sanitation and water supply staff will get commendatory certificates and prizes if their neighborhood council declared as ‘model neighborhood’ on basis of cleanliness, revenue collection and clean water supply.

Member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Malik Wajid Khan inaugurated the competition during a ceremony held here at Charkhakhel Chowk in neighborhood 94 of Union Council 34 Gulberg.

Chief Executive Officer WSSP Engr Khanzeb Khan, GM Operation Engr Ali Khan, district councilors and zonal managers WSSP were present on the occasion.

An awareness walk was also organized on the occasion and corners meetings were held with locals, urging them to cooperate with sanitation staff of WSSP.

Earlier, an awareness session was organized at the hujra of MPA Malik Wajid where local councilors and nazims were present.

A clean neighbourhood committee was formed for UC 34, comprising of neighbourhood councilors and union council nazims during the ceremony.

Engr Khanzeb heard complaints of consumers and district councilors and directed the zonal managers to address them within 24 hours.

Consumers were asked to lodge their complaints on 1334 or Safa Pekhawar mobile application regarding water and sanitation and assured them that their complaints would be addressed within 24 hours.

To a question regarding waiving of arrears, Khanzeb made it clear that there was no chance to waive off arrears.

“You better pay your arrears in installments, I can do it, but if you want me to waive it is not only difficult but impossible,” he said.

“We are duty bound to provide quality municipal services and your duty is to pay your bills on time,” he said, adding that WSSP has replaced 284 kilometers rusted water supply lines throughout Peshawar since its inception.

Replying to a question, he said that WSSP trucks daily shift 800 tons of waste to Shamshato dumping site, generated from the city.

He stressed on usage of bio-degradable plastic bags and give using plastic shopping bags as it was the major pollutants that polluting environment.
