PESHAWAR, 20 October: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has stopped the arrest of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister Sitara Ayaz over alleged misuse of her powers as minister.
The KP Ehtesab Commission had issued arrest warrant for Sitara Ayaz, who is currently a senator of the Awami National Party, last week over corruption charges. However, the PHC on Tuesday stopped the Ehtesab Commission from arresting the former KP minister, stating that an arrest was unjustified without presenting evidence of alleged corruption. Sitara Ayaz served as KP minister for social welfare in the previous provincial government from 2008-2013.
The ANP lawmaker is of the view that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in KP is targeting the political opponents in the garb of accountability.
