PESHAWAR: Smart lockdowns have been imposed in different parts of the country where there were increasing coronavirus cases and this measure delivered good results.
The district administration of Peshawar has also decided to extend the smart lockdown to the posh Hayatabad Phase-IV where the spread of the virus was feared. According to a notification issued by the district administration, the smart lockdown in Hayatabad Phase-IV will start at 12:00 noon today (Monday) due stop the spread of the virus.
The administration has informed the citizens living in the area to be prepared for the smart lockdown and finalise all their work before the noon. After imposition of the lockdown, the entry and exit in the area will remain banned.
The smart lockdown is being imposed in the area as it has reported many coronavirus cases and the infection is spreading rapidly.
Only the shops of medicines, groceries and food items will remain open during the lockdown to make sure the supply of essential items. Only five persons will be allowed in mosques to offer congregational prayers.
On June 15, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had imposed smart lockdown in four localities of Peshawar and the next day, lockdown was imposed in Swat and Abbottabad.
On June 18, the smart lockdown was also imposed in some areas of Charsadda to avoid the spread of coronavirus.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has initiated a process of imposing smart lockdown in hotspot areas which have been identified by the respective district administrations for causing the spread of the virus. The districts where smart lockdown has already been imposed include Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Lower Dir, Mansehra, Haripur, Chitral, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Khyber tribal district. Some areas and neighbourhoods of these districts were reporting large number of coronavirus cases after which a decision was taken to impose lockdown there.
The smart lockdown has brought some improvement in the situation as the death toll and infections have slowed down a bit from earlier peak.
The first coronavirus case in Hayatabad was confirmed on March 20 when a professor was diagnosed with the disease. The street of the professor was quarantined and the nearby Abaseen Market and Yousafzai Market were also sealed.
