PESHAWAR: A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) which seeks disqualification of Member of National Assembly (NNA) from South Waziristan tribal district Ali Wazir, who is associated with the Pakhtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM).
The petition has been filed by a student from Mohmand tribal district, Abdul Wali through his lawyer Khurram Shehzad Chughtai Advocate . In his petition, the petitioner has also sought that the activities of the PTM must be investigated and it be declared an organisation involved in anti-state activities.
The petitioner said the federal government must investigate the PTM’s procedure of membership, funding and alleged links with elements/entities operating against sovereignty, security and integrity of Pakistan. The petitioner has further sought that the activities of the PTM and Ali Wazir must be monitored and their publications must be controlled in great interest of national security and public order. He said Ali Wazir must be disqualified him under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan for his contemptuous remarks against the judiciary. He opined that the MNA from PTM has violated his oath through his activities.
Abdul Wali has also requested the court to provide him security from the government as an interim relief. He said Ali Wazir is a public representative and he must be accountable to public and must not indulge in other activities. However, he alleged that, the PTM MNA was often found to be involved in such activities which damage the political, economic and national interest of the country. He said the government must not ignore activities of the lawmaker.
Ali Wazir is MNA from NA-50 (Tribal Area-XI) who bagged 23,530 votes of his constituency and being member of the National Assembly, he holds parliamentary positions as Member of Standing Committee for States and Frontier Regions (Safron) and Non-ministerial Standing Committee Rules of Procedure and Privileges. He hails from Ahmedzai Wazir tribe of South Waziristan.
The petitioner said that Ali Wazir was launched by a ‘self-styled human rights activist with questionable credentials’ Manzoor Pashteen to address the many grievances of Pakhtuns. He said that unfortunately the PTM is creating state disloyalty rhetoric in Pakistan.
