PESHAWAR: The government has increased the prices of petroleum products with effect from today (Thursday).

According to a notification of the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs5 per litre, diesel Rs6.37 per litre, light diesel by Rs6.48 and kerosene oil by Rs3 per litre. After the increase, the new price of petrol is Rs97.83 per litre, diesel Rs112.94 per litre, light diesel Rs82.84 per litre, and kerosene oil Rs86.50 per litre.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had sent a summary to the Ministry of Petroleum recommending an increase of Rs9 per litre in petrol prices. It had also recommended Rs13 per litre increase in diesel prices and Rs6.47 in kerosene oil.

Increase in petroleum prices is likely to further increase inflationary pressure on consumers.
