PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday directed secretary health and Deputy Commissioner of district Khyber to release fund free treatment for thalassemia patients in the district.
The order was issued by a two-judge bench comprising justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Qalandar Ali Khan while hearing a writ petition submitted by Suleiman and 14 others against the unavailability of funds for free treatment of thalassemia patients in Khyber District.
Deputy Commissioner Khyber and secretary health appeared before the court in the case. Justice Qaiser Rashid asked DC to explain why the funds are not available for treatment of thalassemia patients in tribal district.
The deputy commissioner argued the after the FATA merger with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he has no authority to release funds for any healthcare program.
The bench directed the secretary health and deputy commissioner to release fund of the program without any delay.
The bench also expressed concern over the lack of facilities in hospitals of Tribal district of Khyber and ordered the secretary health and DC to visit all the hospitals of the district and ensure the basic facilities.
