PESHAWAR, 4 October: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has sought reply from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department Director General over unavailability of vaccine in hospitals despite increasing incidents of rat bite.
A two-member bench of the PHC headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi while hearing a petition filed by Pakistan Medical Association president Dr Hussain Ahmed Haroon on Tuesday asked the DG Health to submit report in this regard within one week. The petition says the number of ‘killer rats’ is on the rise in Peshawar and several incidents of rate bite have been reported. It said the government had launched a campaign to eliminate rats, but now it seems to be indifferent towards the issue. The petition said no vaccine is available at major hospitals of Peshawar for rat bite.
The court sought report from the DG Health and adjourned the hearing till next week.
