PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday stayed construction of a cadet college in Mohmand tribal district till next orders.

A two-member division bench of the PHC comprising Justice Qalandar Ali Khan and Justice Abdul Shakoor issued the order on a petition filed by the owner of the land, Muhammad Idrees Khan, who claimed that he was not paid for the land. The petitioner had made the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government through chief secretary, additional secretary Fata, director general Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), Commandant Mohmand Rifles, deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner Upper Mohmand as responds to the petition.

Counsels for the landowner submitted that markets, houses and trees from the petitioner’s land have been removed without his consent. They said the petitioner submitted several applications to the authorities concerned for payment of compensation, but to no avail. They said the rights of their client were violated in this case.

The court ordered that status quo in respect of construction of the cadet college shall remain operative. The court also stated that salary of additional secretary Fata Secretariat will remain attached till his appearance in the court.
