PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) not to declare the official result of NA-43 Khyber tribal district.
Noorul Haq Qadri of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won the election on the seat by defeating former MNA Al-Haaj Shah Jee Gul Afridi on the seat, according to unofficial results. The losing candidate had approached the court for recounting of votes in the constituency.
A two-member bench of the PHC comprising Justice Roohul Amin Khan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim while hearing the petition issued the stay orders.
The court issued notices to the Election Commission and Noorul Haq Qadri and adjourned the hearing till today (Wednesday).
The returning officer of the constituency had to cancel recounting in the constituency after several objections raised by the agents of both the candidates.
