PESHAWAR, 09 December: Like other cities of the country, the joint action committee of the employees of the Pakistan International Airline (PIA) on Wednesday staged a protest rally here against what they called ‘the proposed privatization’ of the national flag bearer airline.
The protesters gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club and chanted slogans against the government move to privatize the ‘national assets’.
They said instead of privatizing PIA, the government should take measures to bring positive changes in its structure to make it a profitable organization.
“Though, the government said in case of privatization, nobody will be sacked, but we do not trust it. We won’t allow the government to sell national assets,” a participant of the rally said.
The government had announced that it would privatize PIA in the next year due to consecutive losses every year. The opposition parties have also been criticizing the government for not taking the parliament on board in this issue.
