BANNU, August 20: Players participating in the Sports Gala for displaced people of North Waziristan complain that the FATA Directorate of Sports has provided them fewer and substandard sports items.

Captain of the Miranshah Cricket Team, Mr Naeemullah, told TNN that TA/DA was given to the players on match day only. He added that the prizes of 70,000 and 50,000 rupees for the winner and runner-up teams were yet to be released.

He said that besides low standard of sports items, the playgrounds were also lacking facilities.

When contacted, Director Sports FATA Mr Faisal Jamil said they had provided all kinds of facilities to the players of North Waziristan. He said Sports Gala was held in order to alleviate the mental stress suffered by the displaced families of North Waziristan. He said second phase of the gala would also be held soon.

Residents of North Waziristan say that if the second phase of the sports fair is organised near Bannu city, it will attract more visitors. They say the Bannu city is accessible to residents of several areas and that even children could visit the venue.
