PESHAWAR, 5 August: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced grant of Rs50 million for Pakistani workers facing difficulties in Saudi Arabia due to unemployment.
According to a statement of the Prime Minister House, about 10,000 Pakistani citizens are jobless in Saudi Arabia after closure of different companies and their kafeels (patrons) have withheld their salaries and passports for the last several months. The prime minister has directed the concerned departments to collect data of all such stranded people and provide Rs50,000 aid to each family.
Besides Pakistani citizens, thousands of Indian, Bangladeshi and other countries’ nationals are also facing immense hardship after being rendered jobless.
The Pakistan Foreign Office has set up camps for jobless people in Saudi Arabia where food and 200 Saudi riyals are provided to every affected person. The Foreign Ministry said Pakistani officials are also holding talks with Saudi officials for release of salaries and passports of Pakistani nationals.
