TIMERGARA, 2 November: Prime Minister (PM) Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said the government wants to distribute the compensation cheques and relief package among the quake victims as soon as possible because the weather he has noticed was too cold in Malakand division and northern areas.
This he said while addressing a ceremony arranged for the distribution of cheques among the quake victims at Dir Scouts Fort at Balambat on Monday.The PM distributed compensation cheques worth Rs.200000 each among 211 h owners of affected houses by the recent earthquake.
The PM was accompanied by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak, Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, federal information minister Parvez Rashid and General Officer Commanding Malakand division Major General Nadir Khan.The premier thanked army chief General Raheel Shareef, Parvez Khattak and civil and military officers for working hard and keeping close coordination with the federal government in this hour of need.
According to the officials of the district administration in Lower Dir more than 3000 houses had been completely damaged while one lac houses had been partially damaged by devastating earthquake in Lower Dir.
Meanwhile addressing the quake affected people in Khar tehsil of Bajaur Agency, the PM said it was foremost priority of the federal govt to rehabilitate the victims and bring normalcy in their lives at the earliest. He said it was earlier anticipated to complete the compensation payment process in three to four days but due to emergence of more damaged houses at hilltops, it is expected that the process will be completed in fifteen days.
Earlier, the Prime Minister distributed cheques amongst the quake victims.
