PESHAWAR: Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has tested positive for coronavirus and he is self-isolating at his home.

The news about the prime minister contracting coronavirus was shared by Special Assistant to PM on Health Dr Faisal Sultan through Twitter.

“PM Imran Khan has tested positive for COVID-19 and is self-isolating at home,” Dr Faisal Sultan tweeted.

The coronavirus test of the prime minister has come back positive a day after he visited the Malakand University and addressed the students there. He also inaugurated Swat Expressway. He also held a one-on-one meeting with Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan and chaired a special meeting on the price of wheat.

The coronavirus test of the premier came back positive despite the fact that he received his first dose of the coronavirus vaccine in Islamabad on March 18. He got himself registered on the 1166 helpline and received the shot when his turn came.

In reaction to Dr Faisal Sultan’s tweet, the social media was flooded with message of good wishes for the prime minister and prayers for his quick recovery.

Also, the Prime Minister Office confirmed on Twitter that Imran Khan has tested positive for coronavirus with a short Dua (prayer) from the Holy Quran.

It is believed that the prime minister in recent days came in contact with someone having coronavirus infection. He said the symptoms are not very severe and it is expected that he will recover soon.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill said the prime minister is having light fever and cough.

Federal Ministers Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry said the whole nation is praying for recovery of the premier.

Health expert Abdul Bari Khan said while talking to different media channels that it takes about two to three weeks for the coronavirus vaccine to become effective, therefore, the concerns about ineffectiveness of the vaccine are misplaced. He said no doubt that the premier received corona vaccine two days ago, but he may already have contracted the virus. He said people having undergone corona vaccine may still contract the virus, but the symptoms of the disease would not be severe and it would not be life threatening.
