PESHAWAR: The Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday launched the first phase of Sehat Insaf Cards Program for deserving families of Islamabad Capital Territory and each family of tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The scheme was first initiated in KP in 2016 by the previous government of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf government which was termed a big success. Under the scheme, deserving families are provided with free medical treatment.
The government announced that approximately 80 million people across the country will get the benefits of the program.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa apex committee during its last meeting, presided jointly by the chief minister and Governor Shah Farman, has decided to extend Sehat Insaf cards to 0.5 million tribal families within one and half month.
The Prime minister in his address to the gathering said that Under the scheme 10.5 million households below the poverty line will receive free medical treatment worth Rs720, 000 in private or state-owned hospitals. “Around 15m people will receive the cards over the next two years,” said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister announced that each family in the tribal districts will be provided with the cards, whereas 85,000 families in Islamabad capital territory will be given cards during the 1st phase of the scheme.
Another feature of the scheme explained the prime minister, each cardholder will also be provided cost of transport up to Rs1,000 for each hospital visit so that there may be no financial burden on the family.
“The cards will be distributed in Islamabad, then our tribal areas and then all over the country,” the PM made the announcement. Khan added that the Sehat Insaf card has provided great relief to the people who were passing lives under the poverty line.
He maintained that whenever there is an illness the whole family is affected and also come under a big financial burden. “The purpose of the health insurance cards is to protect the families who are passing their lives in poverty,” Imran Khan said.
