MIRALI, 1 May: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif paid a daylong visit to North Waziristan and met with the affectees of the Zarb-e-Azb operation today.

The prime minister was accompanied by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan and Peshawar Corps Commander Lt-Gen Hidayatur Rahman.

Addressing the affectees, the premier said residents of Waziristan showed great patience in the testing times. But it is heartening that now they are going back to their homes, he said. He showered praise on Army for cleansing the restive North Waziristan of militants. He assured the affectees that development work would be started in their tribal region. He distributed gifts among the people affected by military operation in Waziristan.

Later in Peshawar, the prime minister also participated in a programme held for giving away compensation cheques to the affectees of recent thunderstorm.
