PESHAWAR, 28 August: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to contest by-polls in NA-122, Lahore and NA-154, Lodhran instead of challenging the verdicts of election tribunals in the Supreme Court.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the PML-N headed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad on Thursday.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid told media persons after the meeting that the government respects the election tribunal verdicts on NA-122 and NA-154 and will not file appeals against these verdicts. He said former speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq will again contest election on NA-122.
Pervaiz Rashid claimed that the PML-N will secure big victory against the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) in the by-polls like it did in the Haripur by-election. He also challenged Imran Khan to contest polls on NA-122 against Ayaz Sadiq.
In response to Pervaiz Rashid’s challenge, Imran Khan challenged Nawaz Sharif to contest polls from NA-122 against him. On the other hand, the PTI senior leader Jehangir Tareen has also challenged Pervaiz Rashid to contest polls from NA-154 against him.
The election tribunals few days ago de-seated the PML-N’s Ayaz Sadiq from NA-122 and Siddique Baloch from NA-154 few days ago and announced re-polling on both constituencies.
Political observers expect a very tough contest between the PML-N and PTI in the by-polls.
