PESHAWAR, 7 May: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to challenge the decision of the election tribunal regarding re-election on the NA-125 seat won by Khawaja Saad Rafique in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad yesterday, federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid and Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said the election tribunal punished an elected MNA for mismanagement in NA-125. They said legal experts have advised the party leadership to approach the apex court on the issue.
Mr Iqbal said Saad Rafique was willing to contest election against the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) in his constituency. However, he said, Mr Rafique do not want to set a wrong precedent by not taking legal assistance.
The PTI’s losing candidate from NA-125, Hamid Khan had filed a case of rigging against Mr Rafique in the election tribunal 22 months ago. The tribunal in it its decision on the case two days ago ordered re-election on the seat due to mismanagement during the election.
