PESHAWAR, 12 October: The PML-N’s Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has won the NA-122 Lahore by-election against the PTI’s Abdul Aleem Khan.

According to unofficial results on Sunday’s by-election, Mr Sadiq  secured 76,204 votes and his rival Aleem Khan 72,043. Ayaz Sadiq had won the election on this seat in the 2013 general election, but the result of the poll was challenged by the PTI. The Election Tribunal had declared the poll null and void and ordered re-election on the seat. The NA-122 seat was among those four constituencies on which the PTI was demanding a thorough probe of rigging and staged 126-day sit-in in Islamabad to pursue their demand.

In the by-election for the Punjab Assembly’s PP-147 seat, PTI’s Shoib Saddique defeated  PML-N candidate Mohsin Lateef. According to unofficial results, Shoaib Siddiqui bagged 31,993 votes and Mohsin Lateef 28,641.

Aleem Khan has accepted his defeat in the by-poll. However, he said the votes of the PML-N have reduced from the previous elections. The PTI leader Jehangir Tareen said his party has serious reservations over the use of official machinery by the government in the poll.

Meanwhile, Ayaz Sadiq said in his victory speech that the PTI chief Imran Khan should end the politics of sit-ins now and play his role in development of the country.

By-election was also conducted on NA-144 Okara constituency in which independent candidate Riazul Haq secured victory.

Strict security measures were taken during the by-polls and no major untoward incident was reported from any constituency.
