Police lodges case against six persons for demanding ‘Swara’

DI KHAN, 10 April: Police on Monday registered a case against six accused on charges of attempting to marry a minor girl.

As per details, Mehraban Baloch, a resident of Gara Azak village in DI Khan lodged a complaint with the police under the Child Marriage Act stating that Muhammad Nawaz and his five other accomplices implicated him in a concocted case some three years ago.

He maintained that his rivals forced him to give his seven-year old daughter Seema’s hand to one Shah Jehan as per the tribal custom of “swara”.

The complainant further said that the other party was now pressing for the marriage of his daughter, who is now 10, and knew nothing about marriage.

Police lodged the case and started investigation into the matter.
