PESHAWAR, 26 August: Peshawar Police has sent a letter to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department seeking permission to take action against four nurses of government hospitals and a dai (midwife) for their alleged involvement in kidnapping of newly born children.

The letter written on 22 August seeks custody of a nurse and midwife of Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar and three nurses of District Headquarters Hospital Nowshera for investigations. The Health Department has not responded to the letter of the police so far.

Seven people, including nurses, have already been arrested by police on suspicion of involvement in kidnapping of newly born children from hospitals. Police said some doctors are also involved in this crime and further investigation is underway.
