PESHAWAR: Unidentified armed men shot dead a policeman in Hayatabad area of Peshawar on Thursday night.

Police said unknown armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on a police check post in Hayatabad area, killing Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) constable Shah Fahad on the spot.

The gunmen escaped from the scene after the murder. Police have filed a report and initiated investigation. Initial investigation showed that the slain policeman was wearing a bullet-proof jacket at the time of the attack, but that wasn’t enough to save him.

No one has claimed responsibility of the murder. However, Peshawar has been victim of terrorism and militancy since the last few years due to its proximity with the Pak-Afghan border.

Few days ago, a policeman was killed and another was injured in an attack by unknown armed men in Dera Ismail Khan.
