JAMRUD, 17 May: Local chapters of mainstream political parties have rejected the proposed formation of Agency Council in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), envisaged in the draft of the FATA Reforms.

During a meeting held at the Bab-i-Khyber here today, local leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Tahrik-i-Insaf, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, Jamaat-i-Islami and Awami National Party unanimously said that under the proposed system elected agency councilors would be under the administrative control of the political administration which is unacceptable to them. They demanded that the Agency Council system should be excluded from the draft of the FATA Reforms and a local government system, the one existing in other parts of the country, should be introduced in FATA. They also urged the federal government to abolish Frontier Crimes Regulation from FATA.
