BARA: Different political parties in Khyber tribal district are facing internal rifts ahead of the upcoming elections on provincial assembly seats of tribal districts.
Political parties are facing difficulties in running campaign for the July 20 polls. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Awami National Party (ANP) and Jamaat-e-Islami are facing difficult situation in their campaigning.
The ANP has overcome the internal rift to some extent as provincial leader Imran Afridi and his son Shakir Afridi have announced to support the party candidate Chiragh Afridi. However, the ANP could not find candidate for PK-106 Jamrud constituency after which it awarded ticket to a female candidate, Naheed Afridi.
In PK-105 constituency of Landikotal, Malik Darya Khan has also come into the field against his own party candidate Shah Hussain Shinwari, which has created a difficult situation for the party in the constituency. Malik Darya Khan said he is contesting the polls as independent candidate over demand of his supporters in the constituency. He said he had never sought ticket from the party. The ANP is facing ideological differences in the constituency which has reduced its chances of win.
Even an organised party like the JI is facing internal rifts in PK-105 and PK-106 constituencies of Khyber tribal district and senior members of the party have expressed detachment with the election campaign of the party candidates Shah Jehan Afridi and Murad Hussain Afridi. It has put bad impact on the election campaign of the JI candidates in the tribal district.
The ruling PTI is also facing a similar situation in three constituencies of Khyber district.
The PTI has nominated Shahid Afridi from PK-105, but Minister for Religious Affairs Allama Noorul Haq Qadri is supporting independent candidate and his disciple Sher Mat Khan Afridi in the constituency. Senior PTI senior leader Abdul Razzaq Shinwari is contesting the polls as independent candidate as he could not get party ticket.
Independent candidates in all the constituencies of Khyber district are taking advantage of internal rifts in main political parties. Voters of Khyber districts are also facing a tricky situation whether to support the candidates of main political parties or support independent candidates.
