JAMRUD, 01 January: A massive anti-FCR rally was organized by different political parties under the banner of Fata Siyasi Ittehad (or Fata Political Alliance) here on Sunday.
Led by the alliance head, Shah Faisal Afridi, the rally started from the agency education office and marched till the historic Bab-e-Khyber. Apart from workers of different political parties, large number of ordinary tribesmen also participated in the rally.
It was for the first time that a female political worker Jemima Khan Afridi participated in the rally. She is the head of the youth wing of Pakistan Peoples Party, Khyber Agency chapter.
Holding their respective party flags, the participants of the rally chanted slogans against FCR. They demanded that the colonial law of FCR should be abolished and Fata be merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speakers censured JUIF chief Maulana Fazal ur Rahman for opposing the ongoing reforms process and the proposed merger of Fata into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
They termed Maulana Fazal ur Rahman as an enemy of Pakhtun’s unity and raised slogans against him.
Jemima Afridi while talking to TNN said that FCR should be abolished and the women of Fata should be encouraged to fight for their rights being enjoyed by women of rest of the country.
“The FCR is a black law. It should be abolished and the people of Fata particularly the women folk should be freed from the clutches of the century old law,” she remarked.
It merits a mention here that Fata Siyasi Ittehad or the Fata Political Alliance is a coalition of different political parties in Fata including Jamaat-e-Islami, PPP, PTI, ANP formed to start a joint struggle against the FCR.
Other elements mostly including tribal elders and some former parliamentarians have formed Fata Grand Alliance to oppose the merger of Fata in KP and protect the distinct status of Fata. They have been demanding that FCR should remain intact in Fata and only some of its inhuman clauses should be amended.
