PESHAWAR, 30 November: The first-ever local government elections in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) are being held today (Monday).

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) says over 2,400 candidates are taking part in the elections on 650 different seats. The polling started at 7:00am and will continue till 5:00pm. There are over 676,000 registered voters in the ICT.

The Election Commission said besides Police, Rangers and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel have also been deployed at polling stations to avoid any untoward incident during the polls. The ECP has set up a control room to receive complaints during the polls on telephone numbers: 051-9210816, 051-9210817 and 051-9210818. Written complaints can be made through fax numbers: 051-9210819 and 051-9210820.

All the federal departments in Islamabad will be closed at 2:00pm to ensure maximum people cast their votes in the elections.
