DI KHAN, September 8: Polling has started for by-election on the provincial assembly seat of PK-68 in Dera Ismail Khan district today.
Mr Javed Akbar had won the seat as independent candidate in the general elections last year. However, he was disqualified by the high court over the fake degree issue three months ago.
Thirteen candidates are taking part in the by-election. However, political analysts say a tough contest is expected between the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf candidate Ehtesham Akbar and independent candidate Mr Murid Kazim.
According to a statement from the Election Commission, 108 polling booths have been set up in the constituency and more than 123,000 voters are expected to participate in the balloting.
The district administration officials say security has been beefed up and that schools are also close today.
