PESHAWAR, 13 May: Election on Senate seat falling vacant after the death of the Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Azam Hoti is underway at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly today.

Azam Khan Swati of the ruling Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and Ghulam Ali of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) are vying for the vacant Senate seat. Sixty-three votes are needed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to win the seat. The PTI and its allied parties have 68 members in the KP Assembly, while opposition has 53 members.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said polling for the Senate seat started at 9:00am and will continue till 4:00pm.
