PESHAWAR, 7 May: An amendment has been introduced in the law about opium cultivation in Pakistan under which the crops will not only be destroyed but its growers will also be arrested.

The Anti-Narcotics Control Division Secretary Ghalib Ali Andesha told a foreign news agency that the amendment in the law has been introduced to discourage growers from cultivating poppy crop. He said the government is working on a plan to provide alternative economic opportunities to poppy growers.

In Pakistan a huge quantity of drugs had been confiscated every year.
