PESHAWAR: Fata Secretariat continues to recruit people on different positions under foreign-funded projects going on in tribal areas without following rules and regulations.

Sources say that a senior official at Planning and Development department has recently shortlisted several candidates for different positions. They add that there are different foreign-funded projects underway for which senior officials wanted to hire their relatives and blue eyed people.

The officials sources said that the provincial government has issued transfer notification of secretary P&D but he was still serving on his position.

“Zubair Qureshi has been transferred on August 30 but he is still serving as secretary P&D at the secretariat,” they said and alleged that he was busy in recruiting his relatives in various projects.

Officials at the department said that additional secretary Sikandar Qayyum was aware of the situation but he has kept a silence.

They said that every secretary trying to accommodate their near and dears in the prevailing uncertainty after Fata-KP merger.

Sources say that high up at Fata secreteriat have advised to the provincial government of KP to put on hold the merger of some of FATA departments into provincial which the provincial government has rejected. The provincial government has also asked FATA secreteriat to halt planning of new projects and recruitment of staff during the ongoing merger process of FATA into KP but the latter has ignored the directives. The sources said that FATA secreteriat’s officials were resisting the plans of KP government to merge all FATA departments into KP in the shortlist possible time.
