NEW YORK CITY, 20 September: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday call for engagement with Pakistan to work together to tackle terrorism and restore peace to the regions.

“I call upon Pakistan to engage with us on a comprehensive state to state dialogue on peace, security and regional cooperation leading to prosperity,” he said.

Addressing the UN General Assembly, the Afghan president said US President Donald Trump’s new Afghan strategy was a clear signal to Taliban guerrillas that they cannot win on the field and must negotiate peace.

He welcome the strategy which, he claimed, has set them on path to certainty, adding that the Afghan people were looking to the US for such strong resolve.

President Ghani said they had an opportunity for a dialogue with Pakistan to find ways and mean how to work together to eliminate terrorism and contain extremism.

President Trump, last month, had announced a strategy for the region to send more troops to Afghanistan while pledged a tougher line on Pakistan for its alleged support to militants.
