ISLAMABAD, 30 July: President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned a session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, August 1st for election of prime minister after Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court in Panama Leaks case.
The session was summoned after ministry of parliamentary affairs forwarded a summary to President Mamnoon.
According to the notification issued by National Assembly Secretariat, the nomination papers should be delivered to the Secretary, National Assembly by 2.00 pm, on Monday. NA Speaker would issue names of the nominated candidates on Monday.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated former petroleum minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for interim prime minister. Whereas, opposition political parties are in contacts to field unanimous candidate for the election of prime minister.
Opposition leader Khursheed Shah has summoned a meeting of all the opposition parties in parliament on Monday to nominate a unanimous candidate for the election of prime minister.
Whereas, PTI has nominated AML Chief Sheikh Rasheed as its candidate for the post of prime minister.
Earlier today, former premier announced petroleum minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to be the interim PM and Chief Minister of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif to fill his shoes after 45 days.
