PESHAWAR: The prime witness in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case told a court on Monday that the police forced him to record a statement against Rao Anwar, the main suspect in the case.
According to the petitioners, former SSP Malir Rao Anwar picked up 27-year-old Naqeebullah Mehsud from his house in Sohrab Goth on 3 January and his bullet-riddled body was found 10 days later. Police arrested Rao Anwar on March 21.
Head Constable Shehzada Jahangir, who was presented in the anti-terrorism court in Karachi as key witness, said he was not present at the scene of the incident and he was forced to give statement against Rao Anwar. He said he received a call from the SP office on 17 February and was arrested upon reaching there. He told the court that his life was in danger and demanded protection.
Rao Anwar was also produced before the court on Monday with protocol and without handcuffs.The hearing of the case was adjourned until 19 May.
