MARDAN, 11 July: Residents of different areas in Mardan staged a protest demonstration against unwarranted power outage and overbilling and blocked Mardan-Nowshera Road for all kind of vehicular traffic here in College Square on Monday.

The protestors were led by Member of Provincial Assembly Zahid Durrani and local government representatives. They burned tyres at the square and chanted slogans against Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

Speaking on the occasion, the protestors said WAPDA has increased the duration of load-shedding to 18 hours daily after Eid Al-Fitr.

They said that load-shedding was conducted in Mardan city despite customers did not steal electricity and paid bills regularly.

Later, the protestors dispersed after XEN WAPDA Altaf Khan assured them that the issue of load-shedding would be resolved within two days.

Meanwhile, people of Bari Cham union council under the leadership of Central Deputy President of Pakistan Muslim League-N Khawaja Muhammad Khan Hoti have also protested against power outage.
