PARACHINAR: Locals came on roads against the lack of health facilities and unavailability of doctors in the biggest district headquarter hospital in Parachinar city of Kurram district on Sunday.
The protestors staged a protest in front of Parachinar Press Club where various people from different walks of life joined the protest and demanded the up-gradation of District Hospital Parachinar on immediate basis.
Addressing to the protestors Agha Muzamil, Ibrar Jan, Shafiq Turi and Ahmed Hussain alleged the local administration for not showing interest in resolving the issues of District Hospital which is causing a great problem for the locals in form of non availability of doctors and paramedics due to which they are compelled to visit the far off hospitals in Kohat and Peshawar for their treatment.
Shahid Kazmi, a local activist said that despite of promises of up-gradition of DHQ by high ups in past, the hospital is not been upgraded and many vacancies of doctors and paramedics are still vacant.
The locals demanded to fill the vacant posts of doctors and paramedics on immediate basis and upgrade the hospital into Category A hospital because its holding the burden of ‘7 lac population’ of the whole Kurram district.
The protestors threatened if the authorities and Minister of Health KP did pay head to their demand, they will stage protest demonstrations in Peshawar.
A woman died at the hospital 5 months back due to the absence of doctors. They added that a 21-year-old Jamila was brought to the hospital where she delivered a baby boy through surgery. Two days later Jamila was again brought to the hospital as she needed oxygen, however, she did not get timely treatment due to absence of gynaecologist and died.
Subsequently the Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Nasir Hussain expressed grief over the incident and ordered inquiry. He said the negligent officials would face strict punishment but nothing has happened as result of the inquiry.
