LANDIKOTAL: People in Landikotal tehsil of Khyber tribal district on Tuesday blocked the Pak-Afghan Highway for all kinds of traffic near Sultankhel Market to record protest against prolonged power load-shedding.

A large number of people came on road and blocked it for traffic. Commuters faced difficulties during blockage of the road. The protesters chanted slogans against Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco) and demanded end to undue load-shedding in the area.

The protesters said the power line of the area trips during winter due to double source. They said Tesco official have not taken any action to resolve this issue. They said they will make a habit of blocking Pak-Afghan Highway if Tesco continued to ignore the issue of double source.

The protesters said they are facing a lot of problems due to prolonged load-shedding in extreme cold weather. They said diseases are spreading as they cannot keep their rooms warm and some areas are also facing water shortage.

Khyber Khassadar Force Subedar Havaldar Khan Afridi reached the spot and assured the protesters that their grievances will be conveyed to the concerned authorities. The protesters dispersed peacefully after the assurance and warned to come again on road if the problem remained unresolved.

FWO official killed in Motorway accident

An official of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) lost his life and another was injured when a speeding car ran over them on Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway on Wednesday.

According to Rescue 1122, a car travelling from Islamabad to Peshawar ran over two FWO officials working on the Motorway in Mardan. One official, Inayatullah died in the accident, while another official, Subedar Jumma Khan sustained serious injuries.

Four persons sitting in the car also sustained injuries in the incident. Sources said eight members of a family were sitting in the car when the incident happened.

The Rescue 1122 team from Mardan immediately reached the spot and shifted the injured to Mardan Medical Complex.

Bannu landmine blast

A blast has been reported from Bannu district in which one person has sustained injuries.

According to local sources, the blast happened in Bachki market of Janikhel area. The law enforcing agencies personnel reached the spot and collected evidences.
