PESHAWAR: The remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 will be held in Abu Dhabi as all the hindrances in this regard have been removed.
The sixth edition of the mega event avoided another postponement with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announcing that it has received all outstanding approvals and exemptions from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government to stage the tournament. The announcement was made by the PCB though a press release on Thursday which was the last day of the deadline given by the PSL franchises for the resumption of the league from June 01.
The players participating in the mega event and other supporting staff will have to undergo quarantine upon arrival in the UAE. The quarantine is expected to last for at least one week.
The PCB said that it would now discuss the development with the franchises and reveal the outcome of the meeting.
The PCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wasim Khan said the PCB is delighted with this development as the remaining hurdles in the staging of the remaining PSL-6 matches in Abu Dhabi have been overcome and all systems are now good to go.
“We are grateful to the UAE government, National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, Emirates Cricket Board and Abu Dhabi Sports Council for their support and patronage in ensuring all final obstacles were removed, which has firmly put us in a position to complete our marquee event,” he said.
Wasim Khan said the PCB, in consultation with the team owners, will now work quickly to finalise all event-related arrangements, details of which will be shared in due course,” he said.
“The holding of the remaining matches in Abu Dhabi will allow our fans to once again follow and support their favourite players and teams through our high-quality broadcast coverage,” he said.
The mega event was cut short in March after seven people participating in the tournament tested positive for coronavirus. The event was at its peak when it has to be postponed and since then planning was underway for arranging the rest of the tournament and UAE finally emerged as the most convenient venue.
