ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Arif Alvi, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Aitzaz Ahsan while other opposition parties fielded Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) supremo Maulana Fazlur Rahman for the presidency.

The deadline to submit the nomination papers ended today at 12pm.

As the opposition parties failed to reach consensus to field a joint candidate, Aitzaz Ahsan and Maulana Fazlur Rahman submitted their nomination papers at the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The grand alliance of opposition parties except PPP decided to put forward the name of Fazlur Rahman for the post.

Previously, a meeting was arranged by the grand opposition leaders in Murree on Saturday in order to decide on a joint candidate in this regard.

They failed to reach a consensus as Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N) raised objections against Aitzaz.
