PESHAWAR, October 17: Pakistani Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Mr Amir Doga has defeated independent candidate Mr Javed Hashmi in the by-election on National Assembly constituency in Multan district, Punjab province.
Though Mr Hashmi was an independent candidate, he was also enjoying support of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz since he quit the PTI.
Mr Hashmi had won the NA-149 seat from the PTI platform in the general elections last year but the seat fell vacant after Mr Hashmi resigned it and also quit the PTI.
According to unofficial result of the 16 October by-election, Mr Dogar led the electoral race with more than 58,000 votes while Mr Hashmi stood runner-up with 47,222 votes.
Speaking to journalists after the by-election in Multan, Mr Hashmi accepted the result and congratulated Mr Dogar.
Dr Javed Siddiqui participated in the by-election from the platform of Pakistan People’s Party.
