LAHORE: Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Sunday ordered arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) MPA-elect of the Punjab Assembly Nadeem Bara for assaulting police officers.
The CJP took suo motu notice of the physical assault of police officers at the PTI MPA-elect’s guesthouse (dera) in Lahore’s Hanjarwal area on Saturday night after the incident was reported in media.
The CJ also asked IG Punjab Police to appear before the court on Monday. A case has been registered against 50 persons of which 21 are arrested. The MPA-elect also gives himself in to the police after CJP order. He claimed that the firing incident didn’t take place at his dera and police raided the place without verification.
He complained that the police assaulted the party workers and supporters. The MPA-elect and his aides physically assaulted Hanjarwal station house officer (SHO) Rana Afzal and other officers.
Superintendent of police (SP) Maaz Zafar said security officers led by SHO Afzal were sent to Bara’s residence in response to a complaint of festive firing from his guest house. He said that when the team reached the site, the SHO and his men were physically assaulted by MPA-elect Bara, who, along with his aides, tore their uniforms and fled the scene right after.
