PESHAWAR, October 29: The Speaker of National Assembly, Mr Ayaz Sadiq, has called a meeting in his chamber to verify the resignations of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentarians.
On 22 August, the MNAs of PTI had protested alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections and renounced their membership of the parliament. However, the resignations have not been verified til now, due to which the opposition members have started pressuring the speaker.
The speaker asked each member to appear individually for the verification while on the other hand the PTI has demanded that all of the party members should be called simultaneously.
Mr Sadiq has issued a notice to 25 members to appear before the speaker on 29 October. In case the members couldn’t manage to reach there for the verification, their resignations would be approved eventually.
The PTI had 34 seats in the National Assembly (NA), which were reduced by one figure after the resignation of Mr Javed Hashmi, who parted from the party.
Three party members have refused to resign, while the resignation letters of five members have been nullified because they had had written their letters to Mr Imran Khan, instead of mentioning the name of the speaker.
