PESHAWAR, 25 June: The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced protest against the federal government over excessive power load-shedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from tomorrow.

The PTI KP Chief Organiser Fazal Muhammad Khan said the purpose of the protest is to condemn unannounced load-shedding in KP and express solidarity with the people who died in heatwave in Karachi.

KP Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak said excessive load-shedding in KP is unconstitutional. He said the KP government will approach the court on the issue and will take necessary steps till getting its right. Mr Khattak said the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has given electricity of KP to other provinces due to which the people of the province are enduring more outages.

The chief minister said out of total 13,200 megawatts power production, the share of KP is 1,782MW. However, he said, PESCO is providing only 1,200MW power to KP, while the remaining 530MW electricity from its share is being provided to other provinces. He asked the federal government to resolve the load-shedding problem amicably, otherwise the KP government will lodge protest over the issue.
