PESHAWAR: Manzoor Pahteen head of Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) was sent to jail on 14 days judicial remand by a local court after he was arrested by Peshawar Police from Shaheen Town area of the city on Monday.

Manzoor was presented before a magistrate in Peshawar amid tight security. The court will decide tomorrow whether PTM leader can be granted transitory remand in order to move him to DI Khan, where the First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against him.

Copy of the FIR says Pashteen has been charged under section 506. 153-A,120-B, 124, 123-A, of Pakistan Panel code.

According to the FIR, Pashteen and other PTM leaders had said that 1973 constitutions violated the basic human rights in a gathering held in DI Khan on Jan 18. He is also blamed for making derogatory remarks against the state.

Besides Pashteen 9 workers of PTM has been arrested by police. PTM leaders including Members of National Assembly Ali Wazir and Mohsin Dawar from North Waziristan along with other PTM workers  held a press conference in Islamabad to announce countrywide strikes against the arrest of Manzoor Pashteen.

The Two MNAs were previously arrested by police for provoking publics against the state institutions and attacking Pakistan army during Khar Kamer incident in North Waziristan on May 26, 2019.

Later on September 21, they were released from jail after Peshawar High Court had approved their bail application on September 18.

The Pakistan People’s Party, in a statement today, demanded that Pashteen be released immediately and that a dialogue be initiated between the government and the youth of tribal areas.

The statement, issued by General Secretary of PPP’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter Faisal Kundi said that Pashteen was arrested just days after Defence Minister Pervez Khattak offered to hold dialogue with the activists.

Senators Usman Kakar and Hasil Bizenjo, during the Senate session today, demanded the release of Pashteen.

The PTM has been calling for the de-mining of ex-FATA, greater freedom of movement in tribal belt, an end to the practices of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.

Due to its criticism on the state and Pakistan army, the movement leadership and workers are labeled by the latter as agent of RAW and NDS which is bend on weakening Pakistan.

Several rounds of negotiations have happened between Pakistani government and PTM but yielded no results.
