PESHAWAR, 26 May: In sheer violation of the ban on public meetings imposed by the district administration of Peshawar, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has announced holding a public meeting in the provincial metropolis tomorrow.
Imran is scheduled to address a public meeting in Peshawar at 1700 hours at Tahmash Stadium. He will also join public meetings in Mardan at 1500 hours and in Nowshera at 1600 hours.
The PTI chief had postponed these meetings a few days ago, as the Election Commission restricted the leaders of parliamentary parties from participating in such gatherings. However, he decided to participate in public meetings after getting a go-ahead verdict from the Lahore High Court.
Though, the LHC verdict provided legal justification to the cricketer-turned-politician to address election meetings in Mardan and Nowshera, yet he cannot hold or participate in any public gathering in Peshawar in the face of imposition of Section 144 of the Pakistan Penal Code by the district administration.
