SHANGLA, 24 November: The earthquake affected people of Chakesar area of Shangla on Monday again staged a protest demonstration over not getting compensation money.

The protesters alleged that patwaris (revenue officials) are seeking bribes of thousands of rupees from quake affected people for verification of compensation money. They said many people, who did not suffer any loss in the earthquake, also received compensation cheques. Police also used baton charge to disperse the protesters.

The earthquake affected people of Chakesar area have held several protests for not getting compensation but their problem remains unresolved.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) says an additional amount of Rs2.5 billion has been released for the earthquake affected people of Dir, Chitral and Shangla. It said with the release of additional amount, the total amount released for compensation cheques has mounted to Rs11 billion.
